Zurich Jazz Orchestra Vocal Artistry Series

British-Nigerian singer and songwriter Ola Onabulé has always been interested in crossing cultural and musical boundaries. With his emotion and virtuosity, his three-and-a-half octave baritone is the perfect instrument to do just that. His poignant storytelling, bringing to life his Nigerian roots, his Western upbringing, his family life, and social commentary on current events, can be heard in previous studio work. His musical influences include jazz, R&B, soul, world music and pop. Al Jarreau has been a major influence on his vocal and compositional style, which is both highly virtuosic and accessible to a wide audience. All of these factors have led to Ola being in high demand as an artist worldwide.

Since 2015, Ola has been collaborating with Ed Partyka, and Ed has arranged many of Ola’s original compositions for jazz orchestra, including nine pieces from Ola’s critically acclaimed album “Point Less”. The Zurich Jazz Orchestra is delighted that Ola Onabulé will be performing with a jazz orchestra for the first time in Switzerland. The program will consist of Ed Partyka’s arrangements of Ola’s original compositions, including new arrangements written especially for this concert to showcase the wonderful soloists of the ZJO.
