Since 2014, Thomas Gansch has been a regular guest at the ZJO, and he will be again this season. In 1958, one year after «Miles Ahead» recorded by Miles Davis and Gil Evans, the album «New Bottle, Old Wine» was released, a solo program customized to alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley. For this program, Gil Evans adapted compositions by jazz musicians he considered important, from W.C. Handy to Dizzy Gillespie or Charlie Parker. As he had done for other adaptions, he added a horn and a tuba to the regular big band line-up. Thomas Gansch calls this album his favorite production by Gil Evans and will play the saxophone part – on the trumpet, needless to mention. Musical director: Martin Streule.
