As the last one of our four potential future musical directors, here is Lars Møller’s turn to introduce himself. He comes from Denmark, and his music is heavily influenced by the melodic northern tradition while at the same time deeply rooted in American music history. A prolonged stay in New Delhi has left its mark on his musical language by adding Indian melodic sophistication. Thus, Møller creates his unique, lyrical and powerful musical expression that finds new ways of combining different cultures across continental and genre boundaries. He doesn’t mind thinking beyond the usual areas of a big band, adding instruments to the line-up, and exploring unknown opportunities of this sound body while always being keenly aware of his own musical origin. Møller will conduct excerpts from his Strawinsky tribute «ReWrite Of Spring» and from his latest release for big band and orchestra, «Glow Of Benares».
Danish saxophone player, composer and conductor Lars Møller (*1966) is a well-known fixture in the Scandinavian jazz scene. After having lived in New York from 1987 to 1989 where he played with many legendary jazz musicians, Lars Møller went on to spend time in New Delhi in the early 90ties. There he would soak up the highly emotional classical Indian music. Since that time, he has been playing in Europa, the United States, Asia, Australia, and Southern America, and has been honored with various awards. From 2012 until 2015, he was artistic director of the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra (AJO) and during this time, he successfully developed the orchestra into one of the leading European big bands. From 2016 to 2017, has worked as composer in residence for the AJO. At this stage, he spends his time working on the development of the new international organization «Global Jazz Explorer Institute».
