Zurich Jazz Talks #12

Today we talk about Ed Partykas musical roots and how he was influenced by the many years he spent playing in the Bob Brookmeyer New Art Orchestra and the Vienna Art Orchestra.

Growing up in Chicago, Ed Partyka was already enthralled by Glenn Miller as an eight-year-old. But Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Stan Kenton were also formative for him. Bob Brookmeyer and the eight years he spent in the Vienna Art Orchestra with Mathias Rüegg had a major influence. These influences can be found today in Ed Partyka’s own sound language when he composes and arranges.
