Bernhard Bamert was born in Wettingen in 1970 and began playing the trombone in Spiez at the age of 11. In 1993, he graduated from the graphics class in Bern, and then in 1999 from the Swiss Jazz School in the same city. During and after the latter training, he played in formations such as Grand Mother’s Funck, tré, mats-up, Kaspar Ewald’s Exorbitantes Kabinett, Martin Streule Jazz Orchestra, Zurich Jazz Orchestra, Swiss Jazz Orchestra, Lucerne Jazz Orchestra, Vertigo Trombone Quartet, Pius Baschnagel’s Latin World, Bamert/Tschopp Duo, Andy Tschopp’s Bubaran, Michael Fleiner’s Septeto Internacional, Floriano Inacio Jr Quartet, Rodrigo Botter Maio’s Jazz via Brasil Group. James Brown Tribute Show, Sophie Lüssi’s Hans im Glück, Bami’ Bonebook, Bamert/Solimine Duo and Bernhard Bamert Quintet. He has also played in pop acts with Stephan Eicher and Bligg, among others, and can often be seen in productions at the Thater Rigiblick. He has worked as a composer for the independent opera company Novoflot Berlin and various wind ensembles. He lives in Uster and teaches jazz trombone at the Zurich University of the Arts.
