Nicola Bernhard

Nicola Bernhard had his first trumpet lessons at the age of 8. After graduating from high school with a major in music, Nicola completed the Swiss Military Music Recruit School and has been a member of the Swiss Army Big Band ever since.

In 2017, he began his studies at the Bern University of the Arts, jazz department, which Nicola completed in summer 2022 with a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy. There he studied with Matthieu Michel, Bert Joris, Ralph Alessi, Stephan Geiser and Lutz Häfner. He has received master classes and individual coaching from renowned trumpeters such as Wayne Bergeron, Louis Dowdeswell, Andy Haderer and Ambrose Akinmusire.

Nicola performs regularly at home and abroad with a variety of bands in a wide range of styles. These include: Swiss Jazz Orchestra, Christoph Walter Orchestra, 21st Century Orchestra, Pepe Lienhard Big Band, Luca Hänni, Traktorkestar and many more… Nicola has had the pleasure of performing on stage with renowned musicians such as Chris Potter, Dick Oats, Thomas Gansch, Joe Magnarelli, James Morrison, Monty Alexander and Alvaro Soler.

He teaches at the Langendorf and Oensingen-Kestenholz music schools and is also bandleader of the Concert Band Langendorf.
