«Participation» is a word often used in today’s cultural landscape. The Zurich Jazz Orchestra has been practicing what the dictum preaches for a long time. 15 years ago, we started including students of the ZHdK in our workshop concerts at the Musikklub Mehrspur. In the first set, we feature young talents from the ZHdK setting. Cédric Ziegler and Louis Edlinger both studied composing-arranging and each contribute a tune for big band. Guitar player Szabolcs Oláh even presents a number of tunes. We met Olàh through a lecturer, and we liked the young Hungarian’s music so much that we decided we just had to work with him. Oláh has been awarded various prizes for his compositions and will play guitar on his tunes.
During the second set, we are featuring compositions and arrangements of ZJO members – drummer Pius Baschnagel and co-director and trumpet player Daniel Schenker.
