Monologue for an actor and a jazz band / German-speaking premiere – A play by Henning Mankell

Sometimes it all works out. You get to play in a great theatre with a breath-taking view over the entire city, accompanying a monologue written by one of the finest crime novel writers (Henning Mankell) about one of the greatest jazz musicians (Miles Davis). As an orchestra of 22 musicians, we perform «Sketches of Spain» which is considered the most accessible Miles Davis album. The monologue is spoken by Daniel Rohr known from theatre stages and movie screens («Vitus», «Giulia’s Verschwinden»).

«Miles oder die Pendeluhr aus Montreux» is an homage to a jazz genius, a man suffering from loneliness and prejudice. It tells about the beauty of Juliette Gréco, Swiss watches, of favourite chords and beloved people. The text not only sheds a new light on a great musician – it also touches your heart. Musical motive is «Sketches of Spain» from the perspective of a junk dealer who experiences the concert back-stage. It revolves around the friendship between the common man and the larger-than-life genius.
