Based on the need for a dedicated rehearsal venue for the Zurich Jazz Orchestra, the “Jazzhaus” project was developed together with the Dr. Stephan à Porta-Stiftung.

The “Jazzhaus” on Heinrichstrasse is not intended to become another concert venue, however, because Zurich already has enough first-class venues. But rehearsal and work spaces for larger ensembles are a rare commodity in the city. Thus, the “Jazzhaus” presents itself as a production and work site for the Zurich Jazz Orchestra, but at the same time also as a platform and work space with recording possibilities for other musicians, ensembles and productions.

Heinrichstrasse 69, 8005 Zurich
The half of the house from 1893, formerly used by craftsmen, is being converted into a music rehearsal house.

The rehearsal house is accessed through the space between it and the neighboring courtyard building of the “sogar theater”. One of the building’s entrances leads directly into the two-story rehearsal room. In contrast to the performance on exposed stages, the joint rehearsal will take place in a terrain trough. A new interior staircase with a separate building entrance leads to the upper floor. There two smaller rehearsal rooms will be arranged, which are shot over the office of the ZJO with extensive sheet music storage.
