Zurich Jazz Orchestra feat. Claudia Döffinger (cond., comp.) & Kristin Berardi (voc)
Claudia Döffinger was born in Baden-Württemberg in 1989. She started playing the piano at the age of eight, and at 13 she played in her first jazz band. Consequently, she always moved to wherever there was something to learn, study and perform: to Lucerne to study jazz piano, to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz for a master’s degree in jazz composition and arranging with Ed Partyka and Michael Abene, to Cologne for a master’s degree in jazz composition and arranging with Ed Partyka and Michael Abene, to Cologne, where she currently lives and works.
Döffinger is the recipient of the Downbeat Student Music Award, 1st prize at the Helsinki Jazz Composition Contest, and 3rd prize at the Composition Contest Katowice. At the ZJO, the versatile composer with the incredibly broad spectrum and the refreshing, often unconventional approach is already a proven and with much anticipation expected visitor again. Not least because she embodies exactly what the ZJO stands for: Claudia Döffinger is rooted in the tradition of big band jazz, knows the vocabulary of the large formation and is not afraid for a second to strike unconventional notes and give the audience catchy, often funny moments.
